Keeping in touch is the name of the game with a satellite phone rental. Our rental satellite phones can be used to talk from the far corners of the planet. They can also be used to connect to satellite internet and send text messages, also known as short message service (SMS).
When you rent satellite phones from Globalcom, the first two weeks of your Iridium phone rentals cost can be applied towards the purchase of an Iridium satellite phone.
You can pre-buy Iridium rental minutes at a lower cost by buying a prepaid airtime block.

We have some tips for our Satellite Phone Rental customers. We receive many questions about which satellite phone is the best choice. Of the four Iridium models available, the Iridium 9555 is the smallest and lightest, and is the most popular. The Iridium 9575 Extreme offers the most rugged functionality and contains a built-GPS and one button SOS feature that sends your position. Because of the large size of the Iridium 9505A and 9500 satellite phones, we recommend either the 9575 or 9555 to all of our satellite phone rental customers. They offer reasonable size and the best performance of all the satellite phones.
If you need internet access, we would recommend Renting a BGAN terminal. It provides high speed internet and voice capabilities. The Iridium satellite phones also offer internet connectivity. However, the speed available is only about 9600bps, best case. This is only about 1/5 of dial up landline speed! It is usable for sending small emails or small files at best. We can rent the Iridium data kit when you rent satellite phones, but we think most users will be unimpressed with the capability it provides.
Note: Calls from an Iridium rental phone to other satellite carriers like Inmarsat and Globalstar are very expensive. These guys do not play together nicely. Your cost will be $9 per minute for this type of call. Just don’t do it! This service is best used to call cell phones, landlines, or other Iridium phones.
