1. How does Express Data work?

Express Data is an exciting technology that significantly speeds up your satellite Internet connection. By using advanced compression and performance enhancement techniques, Express Data is able to optimize traffic flow across the existing Internet connections. This allows you to receive the information you are looking for faster when using the Express Data service. Here are a few of the techniques used to accomplish this task:

2. What types of data will Express Data accelerate?

Express Data will accelerate web-based file transfers, web browsing, uploading and downloading of all native FTP file transfers, and all types of email from simple web-based email systems like MSN and Yahoo Mail to POP3 and SMTP based email systems such as Microsoft Outlook Express®, Microsoft Outlook® and Microsoft Exchange®. Additionally, email attachments including Microsoft® Word, Microsoft PowerPoint®, Microsoft® Excel and others will be accelerated.

3. What do I require to begin using Express Data with Globalstar service?

Globalstar Requirements

  •     Globalstar GSP-1600 Handheld Satellite Phone or GSP-2900 Fixed Phone with version 5.2 or higher phone software version
  •     Subscription to Express Data service
  •     Globalstar Data Kit with Installation CD version 1.2 or higher or Globalstar Vehicle Kit
  •     Express Data software (can be downloaded from the Globalstar website or the Data Kit Installation CD Version 1.2)
  •     Subscription to a Globalstar airtime price plan

Computer Requirements

    Pentium II, III, IV, Celeron 500Mhz or higher class machine
    Operating systems: Windows® 98, Windows® Me, Windows® 2000, or Windows® XP or MAC OS 8 and higher
    A minimum of 64 MB of RAM and 200MB of free disk space

Note: Functionality and connectivity with VPN services may not be compatible with Express Data.

4. At what data speed will my connection be with Express Data?

The degree to which Express Data can accelerate each of the above applications is dependent upon the processor speed of your PC, the speed of the selected connection, the amount of congestion the connection is experiencing and the types of data you are requesting.

5. How much does Express Data Cost?

Express Data is a FREE subscription-based service included at no additional cost in most of Globalstar’s current service plans (link back to the Globalstar service page on the GlobalCom site) Express Data is FREE to customers on the following price plans:

You can subscribe to Express Data on all other monthly price plans at $9.95/month over and above the current monthly service fee. For annual plans not listed above an annual fee of $119.40 will be charged.

6. Is Express Data difficult to install?

It is very simple Express Data software can be installed from the Globalstar Data Kit CD or online. Ask your GlobalCom representative where download your free copy of the Express Data software.  An easy-to-follow installation wizard will take you through the entire set-up process.  If you wish to purchase a Globalstar Data kit which is required to connect the satellite phone to your PC call your GlobalCom representative at 1-888-636-0707.  

7. How do I subscribe to Express Data?

After you have installed Express Data on your PC, a registration wizard will guide you through the simple process.

8. Does my copy of Express Data stay current?

Yes your software is always current. Express Data is self-updating. When you launch Express Data, it will check and download any updates and new features that are available. You will be prompted and asked if you want to upgrade your Express Data at this time. If you say yes, the updates will be applied. If you choose you can go to the “Automatic Updates” screen in the product at any time so any available updates and features will automatically be applied.

9. What if I already have a data compression service?

If you already have data compression installed on your laptop, you must uninstall the software before downloading the Express Data software.

Note: Should the Express Data server drop the connection you will need to terminate your current Globalstar data session and re-initialize the Globalstar data connection.
